2nd Annual Laura Ray Scholarship Award

Joseph Saenz & Dr. Peek

Laura Ray was a loyal and dedicated employee at UTMB for 30 years.  She provided great leadership and was a trusted friend and colleague to us in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Community Health and across the campus.  As a way to honor her memory and pay tribute to her remarkable service to our department and UTMB, we created the Laura Ray Scholarship Fund.  It’s provides a perpetual tribute to Laura by recognizing and rewarding outstanding students enrolled in the Graduate Program in Population Health Sciences.  This annual award allows each of us to honor her work and her contributions to UTMB, the faculty, staff and students.  This is the second annual award.  The recipient is Joseph Sanez.

Laura worked closely with many of our alumni so we thought it would be fitting to her legacy and most appropriate to invite an alumnus to present as part of this event.  Dr. Kushang Patel is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Center for Pain Research on Impact, Measurement and Effectiveness at the University of Washington Medical Center.  The title of his presentation is Epidemiology of Chronic Pain and Aging.
